Chamber Chat September 5, 2007

The new and improved Sedro-Woolley Chamber of Commerce website was unveiled at our September membership luncheon to a rousing crowd by Steam Interactive Creative Director Ken Davenport.  It is exciting as we use cutting edge technology to get the word out about Sedro-Woolley. Re-branding a product and idea takes a lot of hard work.  We have a fresh new logo that couples a modern S-W with a prominently placed hyphen, with the old style font of Sedro-Woolley. One of our important tasks was remembering our rich history as we move forward in this new century.

We are lucky that world famous photographer Darius Kinsey located his studio here in town before moving to Seattle in the early 1900’s.  He spent many days out in the woods chronicling our rich logging history.  The wide scope of his work can be seen on a regular basis at the S-W Museum.

This weekend our past is remembered with “Founder’s Day.”  Start with biscuits and gravy Saturday September 8th from 8am-11am at the Senior Center Founder’s Day Breakfast.  Ellen Palmer, Center Director says this is one of their most successful fundraisers.  The cost is $5 per person.  Stop by the chamber office and check out the great display that staffer Patty Smith created with historical items from the museum. Then head there and immerse yourself in our rich heritage as the Fritsch and Harrison families are honored.  You may see something that triggers a long lost memory, or run into a childhood friend.  Carolyn Freeman and her volunteer staff will be working hard as they show videos in front of the museum and coordinate woodworking demonstrations throughout the day.  On Sunday head down to Riverfront Park for JJ’s Cruisers Annual Open Car Show.  They have had over 350 cars participate at past shows.  Come hungry because for only two bucks you will get a tasty hot dog with all the fixing’s, chips, soda and a cookie.

September 19 we look to our bright future at one of our forward thinking Sedro-Woolley companies: Janicki Industries.  The S-W Chamber and the Economic Development Association of Skagit County (EDASC) invite you on a tour featuring their innovative technology.  We will gather at building #4 and sample tasty hor d’oeuvres from Joy’s Sedro-Woolley Bakery and Café.  A power point will be shown and tours will be given to those interested.  Please call the chamber at 855.1841 if you plan on attending this exciting event that runs from 5pm-7pm.
