Congratulations Bus !

Many of you, just like me remember when JC Penney was in town.  I got the blue striped flair pants I wore to my cousin’s wedding in the early 1970’s there.  They had a state of the art communication system that consisted of a metal clip attached to a ball chain wire that the clerks on the main floor would attach receipts and invoices too. The bundles of information would then be pulled up to the 2nd floor with the speed of DSL for processing by store manager and former chamber president Stanley Smith and his efficient staff.  When they left town, the community was fearful that business as we knew it would be doomed.

We are experiencing a similar transition at the same iconic location as longtime businessman Bus Junquist is retiring after 41 years in furniture business.   Congratulations to Bus and his family for their many years of service to Sedro-Woolley.  We could always count on Bus and Craig to help out the chamber.  We, like everyone in town will miss them.

The Revitalization Committee under the direction of chair Tim McCray is tackling the issue of vacant retail space in the area.  Tim has many innovative and exciting ideas that we are working to implement.  We are partnering and communicating with the City, Businesses and Community as detailed in the vision statement of the chamber. Join us the third Monday of the month at the Chamber office and you can be a part of the community link.  Call us at 855.1841 for more information about this important and exciting committee.
