The Sedro-Woolley Chamber is hosting an After Hours Event, January 11, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. at the Chamber Office designed to celebrate all the work put into to improving our chamber office and thanking all of those who participated in the project. We will enjoy food from local restaurants and wine from Eaglehaven Winery. We will also give folks and opportunity for interactive input on what our Vision for 2020 should be.
Come share your dream for our future, share your ideas about how we should live, and engage in deciding what kind of downtown Sedro-Woolley can have. The City of Sedro-Woolley belongs to you, so no matter what neighborhood you live in or where your business is located, your input is welcome… and essential. Please join us for our open house celebrating changes already made and make a difference in shaping the 2020 plan.
The 2020 Plan will include recommendations for:
~ Enhancing neighborhoods, core business district,
corridors, and streets
~ Catalyst projects to help make the plan a reality, and
~ Policies relating to the City’s long-term physical growth
The Sedro-Woolley Chamber of Commerce 2020 Vision planning and design process began in November 2009 and will extend over approximately 14 months. The interactive and engaging public process will provide integral direction for a successful Plan and result in a vision for the City Center that reflects the entire community.
Opportunities for participation include stakeholder interviews, working groups, community workshops, a local professional Charette around several meetings with the revitalization committee headed by Chair, Mary McGoffin. The Sedro – Woolley 2020 Vision Plan will provide a development framework and planning recommendations for the Cascade gateway region. This effort will encompass more than downtown revitalization by focusing on connecting adjacent neighborhoods and breaking down the distance to I-5 barrier. In uncertain economic times it becomes even more critical that there is a plan for the region’s economic engine. The Plan will provide direction and set priorities for leveraging finite resources. The planning process will inspire public and private partnerships and foster collaborations within and beyond our Core Business District.
The input collected during the January 11 open house, as well as from blogs and facebook sites being created will be used to develop a preliminary vision statement, guiding principles, and goals for the 2020 Vision Plan. Preferences will also be used to explore strategies and design concepts for future development in downtown and the greater Sedro-Woolley area. Most agree the city needs to draw more street-level retail and mixed-use projects to downtown, but what should that look like, help decide come and be a part of the process.
